Lions win in Kailahun, Bo Rangers and Warriors dropped points at home, FC Johansen beat Kamboi Eagles, Port defeats Republican, Blackpool returns to winning ways

A busy Saturday in the Sierra Leone Premier League saw teams producing 15 goals in all six matches played in different venues across the country. 

There were 4 wins and two draws. East End Lions, FC Johansen, Port Authority, and Mighty Blackpool all recorded a win whilst Bo Rangers was held to a 1-1 draw at home, and Bai Bureh Warriors also settled for a 1-1 draw with Diamond Stars.

Luawa FC Vs East End Lions- Kailahun Town Field

East End Lions FC arrived in Kailahun town to face host, Luawa FC for the first time in a venue that is completely new to them.  But as one of the unbeaten teams in the second round of the Sierra Leone Premier League, getting the results was not easy, however, the job was done and they returned to Freetown with a win and all three points.

What was seen as a highly anticipated match by the host fans, ends up being another unbeaten run for the away side who emerged victorious with a convincing 2-0 win. 

East End Lions FC started the match with a glimpse of winning at full time, creating many chances earlier in the first half. But they were unlucky to find the net.

Luawa FC tried to get something from the match, but the East End Lions defenders held strong, preventing any clear-cut chances to pass through their line.

The second half saw both teams coming out with so much passion to score with the Killers exhibiting more intention to attack and they got the reward in the 79minute when Mohamed Kamara breaks the deadlock to put the visitors ahead.

The visiting side continued to dominate the possession and create more chances in the Luawa FC defensive area, making it easier for Kandeh Turay to double their lead in the 85’ minute and seal the win for East End Lions who are yet to lose a match in the second round of the league.

Bo Rangers 1-1 Old Edwardians- Bo Town Stadium

A fascinating encounter was held at the Bo Stadium between the unbeatable league leaders, Bo Rangers FC, and one of the most improved teams in the league, Old Edwardians FC.

It was a tough match for either side as it was full of tactical and systematic approaches with physically high presses, crunching tackles, and enthusiasm to win.

An Electrifying first half saw Bo Rangers get a goal 1 minute into the first half with Musa Noah Kamara finding the net to put the home side ahead. Both teams created better chances midway through the first half but lack the intensity to finish clinically.

Old Edwardians quickly strategies as they pull one back to level the scores 1-1 before the break with Gibrilla Osu Kamara converting the goal from the penalty spot.

As the game resume from the half-time break, Bo Rangers began to get back with some clear chances which they failed to utilize. Old Edwardians on the other hand got few opportunities to get a goal late with clear-cut chances missed in front of goal.

Both sides were unable to break through to get the winner as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

FC Johansen 1-0 Kamboi Eagles- Trade Centre Field Freetown ‍

FC Johansen secured a 1-0 home win over Kamboi Eagles FC at the Trade Centre playing field on Saturday afternoon with Emmanuel Coueiho scoring the only goal in the 65’ minute to separate the two sides.

In what was described as a match of two equals, Johansen strive to earn the three points with a clean sheet, ensuring they maintains the one goal and stopped the visitors from scoring.  

FC Johansen 16-year-old Mohamed Kargbo was awarded Man of the Match following his tremendous performance against Kamboi Eagles. The lad impressed spectators throughout the match as he showed tenacity with a touch of skills to help the Dream Chasers secure the win.

Mighty Blackpool 4-1 East End Tigers- Angola Town Field Freetown

Mighty Blackpool FC swiftly bounced from their midweek setback as they slapped East End Tigers FC with a whopping 4-1 victory at the Angola Town Field.

An energetic first half saw East End Tigers FC take the lead with an early goal from Kai George who opens the scores 2’ minutes into the first half. But his effort was canceled by Donald Wellington as he nets the equalizer for Blackpool 33’ minutes into the action.

Both sides head off into the dressing room with the score 1-1 at halftime. After some demanding team talks, Mighty Blackpool came as a different team and their efforts pay off with a big win.

The Tiss-Tas Boys were firing from all fronts, pressing in the attack, increasing the intensity, and showing the aspiration to score more goals.  Rob Gandi Williams scores in the 56’ minutes to put Blackpool ahead before. Joseph Kamara finds the net twice with a brace in the 79’ and 87’ minutes to win the match.

East End Tigers FC made some good runs and passes pushing hard to get another goal, but the Blackpool’s back four was smart enough to guard their young goalkeeper who was fantastic throughout the match.

Port Authority 2-1 Real Republican-Brima Attugha Stadium Freetown

Port Authority FC takes on Real Republicans FC in a nail-biting match at the Brima Attugha Stadium. It was a highly contested encounter between the two sides, but Port Authority narrowly escaped with a 2-1 win at full-time.

The Waterfront Boys started the match with high intensity, chasing and dominating the possession in the opening minutes. A few chances were missed earlier, but they quickly regrouped to get the job done with the three points secured.

In the 17’ minute, Port took the lead through a goal from Foday Kai. They continue to dominate the match in the second half with Saio Samurai doubling their lead in the 79’ minutes.  

Real Republicans got a goal 80’ minutes into the match as Ibrahim Sesay placed the ball into the net, leveling the scores 1-1. They pressed hard to get another goal, but that was farfetched as the home side managed to hold on to the 2-1 win. 

Despite the frustrating results, Republicans can take some positive from the game, having played a beautiful football with a fantastic possessing football that caught the eyes of spectators.

Bai Bureh Warriors 1-1 Diamond Stars- Port Loko Town Field

Elsewhere in the north, Bai Bureh Warriors and Diamond Stars settled for a 1-1 draw at the Port Loko Town field in front of a rousing crowd.

Diamond Stars took the lead and work tirelessly to get another goal, but the Warriors doubles their work rate and leveled the score to earn a point.
