Grimsby Town signs Kamil Conteh from Middlesbrough for an undisclosed fee

Kamil Conteh makes a swift move from Middlesbrough to Grimsby Town for an undisclosed fee on Monday evening, signing a three years contract that will keep him at Blundell Park till 2026. 

His arrival was confirmed following an agreement between the two sides to trade the midfielder for an undisclosed fee with Middlesbrough making a Profit on a player they brought in on a free transfer last summer after he was released from Watford.

Conteh’s 12 months at Middlesbrough ended with the switch to the League Two side, as he signed a three-year contract after the two clubs agreed an undisclosed fee.

Having persuaded the 20-year-old on the move to Blundell Park, a delighted Hurst told the club website: “I’m really pleased to have signed Kamil. He was on our wish list for some time, certainly over the summer and at the end of last season when we watched him a few times.

“He really impressed us then so he’s been an ongoing target for us. He’s a good midfield player, he can play off either foot and receives the ball well. He gets around the pitch extremely well and he is a young player that we feel has got so much potential”.

“I’m really pleased to have secured his signature and we’ve fought off quite a lot of competition to get there. We had a Zoom meeting initially and then he came up to the training ground so quite a bit of work has gone into this signing. We’re really pleased that he felt it is the right time to progress his career and we’re delighted to have him.”

Conteh had a frustrating season at Middlesbrough during his 12-month stay as he couldn’t even make a first-team appearance. Just when the club attempted to demote him to the U21, the midfielder got an opportunity to join Gateshead on loan.

At Gateshead, he got more first-team appearances and he was an influential player in the squad.

Grimsby was one of the many League Two clubs that showed interest in signing the Sierra Leone international this summer. Following Conteh’s impressive spell on loan at Gateshead in the National League as he was voted Fans’ Player of the Year and helped the club reach the FA Trophy final at Wembley.
