Turay brace inspires Sierra Leone to a 2-0 win over Somalia

Mohamed Buya Turay’s inspiring double helped Sierra Leone secure a 2-0 win over Somalia in a friendly match at Stade Khouribga in Casablanca Morocco on Tuesday evening

The win was a satisfactory result for Amidu Karim’s men who were determined and excited to play for their country under the watchful eye of the new technical team

Odense Boldklub forward, Turay broke the deadlock just before the hour mark when he capitalized on a well-executed penalty kick which he swiftly converted to earn Sierra Leone the lead in the 25th minute of action.

Both sides came close to scoring but were unlucky in front of goals as they headed off to the break with Sierra Leone maintaining their 1-0 lead at halftime.

Turay then doubles Leone Stars’ lead 10 minutes into the second half. It was his third international goal for Sierra Leone in three matches within two days.

Coach Amidu Karim and his squad had a good outing in Morocco with a narrow 1-1 draw against Benin and a convincing 2-0 win over Somali. Football fanatics believe there are some changes to the style of play, with the team improving on their attacking prowess when going forward.

However, they said, it is too early to assess the coach, who they think should be given enough time to prove his worth as the right man for the job.

In the meantime, these friendlies were a good test for Sierra Leone as they helped to leverage their preparations for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers scheduled for November.

Sierra Leone will open their World Cup qualification journey away to Ethiopia on Monday 13th November 2023 before hosting Egypt later for match day two in the same month.
