Kahunla Rangers FC is the third club to gain promotion to the Sierra Leone Premier League following their convincing 3-1 win over Correctional Center in the national playoff third-place match on Saturday in Makeni, northern Sierra Leone.

This is the first time Kahunla has earned a promotion to the county’s top-flight league. Their excellent work rate in the national playoffs was noticed by many football fans who earlier ticked them as one of the three clubs that will gain promotion to the league.

Kahunla is a local club based in Nongowa chiefdom in Kenema district. All hopes were on Kahunla to save their district the stress of not having a team in the league after Kamboi Eagles FC was caught up in a triangle relegation battle which sent them to division one due to an alleged unfair decision.

In the meantime, Kahunla Rangers will be the only team from Kenema and the second team in the eastern region to play in the league this season.

Bhantal FC from Freetown, Kahunla Rangers from Kenema, and Kholifa Stars from Tonkolili are the three clubs that were promoted to the Sierra Leone Premier League for the 2023/24 season. All three clubs are new to the league, but with time their fans believe they will put up resistance to stay up at the end of the season.

The league is scheduled to commence on November 3rd, with a Community Shield to be played between the 2022-23 champions, Bo Rangers FC, and runners-up Mighty Blackpool on October 28th at the prestigious Southern Arena in Bo, Southern Sierra Leone.
