Ivory Coast trounced Sierra Leone 5-1 in an international friendly match

The Elephants of Ivory Coast crushed Sierra Leone in a friendly international match, resulting in a score of 5-1.

Ivory Coast delivered a resounding 5-1 victory to Sierra Leone in their international friendly match at Stade de San Pédro on Saturday.

The Elephants got off to a great start with Ousmane Diomande scoring from a free-kick 18 minutes into the game. Al-Ahli midfielder, Frank Kessie then doubled their lead before Jonathan Bamba added a third goal before the half-time break.

Jereme Bega and Lazia Armani both found the net in the second half and Rodney Michael Jr earned the visitors a consolation goal in the 86th minute.

The match was part of Ivory Coast’s preparation for the upcoming AFCON tournament. The 2023 TotalEnergies African Cup of Nations is the 34th edition of the biennial football tournament held by the Confederation of African Football.

The tournament will take place between Saturday, 13 January to Sunday, 11 February 2024 in Ivory Coast.

Despite the defeat to the Elephants, Sierra Leone Football Association have since announced another friendly game against Morocco’s Atlas Lions to be played on the 11th of January 2024.

With the experience of their match against Ivory Coast, the Leone Stars are hoping to better their performance against Morocco.
