Sierra Leone Faces Cameroon on Friday for Third Place

Sierra Leone's hope of reaching the finals of the ICC T20 Division 2 Qualifiers shattered by Botswana

After host nation Botswana tipped the equilibrium against the Ladies Patriots to suit their 17-run win early on Wednesday, the fight to take the third place has brought in Cameroon once again.

The Ladies’ dream for gold was cut short after Wednesday’s loss. “Extras kill,” says Fatmata Parkinson, Captain for the Ladies Patriots. And indeed conceding 50 extras against Botswana who already has a home advantage was a gift given on the best day.

The march towards gold halted, Sierra Leone is dusting off ill spirits to spring back to action against Cameroon to secure third place this Friday as host Botswana meets tournament favorite Kenya for the all-needed gold.

In the top wicket-taker chart, Sierra Leone Alice Fillie sits third in four innings, averaging 6.30.

Sierra Leone finished at the top of Group B with six points. Its dream of shifting the bar beyond third place is yet to be actualized in all four appearances made at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier.

The team, being at the pinnacle of its transition stage in a 12-year drive, is in urgent need of fresh legs to start a new generational squad.
