Kholifa Star’s book a spot in Sierra top-flight league

Kholifa FC book a spot in Sierra Leone top flight league

In a momentous achievement for Kholifa Stars Football Club, the North-East region powerhouse has solidified its place in the Sierra Leone Premier League for the 2023/2024 season.

Alhassan Kargbo and Mohamed C. Jalloh goals were enough to shatter the dreams of Kahunla Rangers FC and guaranteed Kholifa’s presence in the country’s top-tier league.

Hailing from the Tonkolili district, Kholifa has showcased remarkable resilience throughout this year’s National playoff campaign. Despite a setback in their opening match, where they suffered a 3-0 defeat to Group A contenders Bhantal FC, the team swiftly rebounded.

They secured victories against formidable opponents, including Alma FC from the Southern region, Gulf FC from the East, and Great Scarcies FC from the Northwest region.

This remarkable achievement marks the first time in fifteen years that the Tonkolili district has a representative in the premier league. It’s a significant milestone for the region, particularly after the former district giants, Golden Dragons, were relegated.

During their journey to secure the premier league spot, Kholifa showcased their attacking efficiency by scoring a total of nine goals, while conceding five in the process. Their journey, however, is not yet complete as they are set to face off against Bhantal FC in the final on Saturday, 7th September 2023.

This rematch carries a special significance, given that Bhantal had defeated them in their initial encounter.

Head coach Maddie Conteh and his boys have expressed their determination to restore pride and potentially secure victory in the final match, although the outcome will not affect their qualified spot in the premier league.
