Sierra Leone boxer crashed out of Commonwealth Games after losing 5-0 on unanimous decision

Sierra Leone’s light welterweight boxer, John Browne was beaten by Alston Ryan of Antigua and Barbuda by a unanimous decision in the men’s 63.5kg bout in the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games after all five judges scored in his favor.

John, from the blue corner, came into the ring very confident and determined, but he was overpowered by Ryan who looks more technical than him, and he was beaten 5-0.

The judges awarded Ryan the fight 30-27, 30-27, 30-27, 27-20, 29-28 after he dominated John Brown with some clean jabs and body blows throughout the bout.

Despite losing, the Sierra Leonean boxer put up a strong resistance, landing some technical punches on Ryan, but it wasn’t enough for him to get closer to winning the bout.

Ryan has advanced to the quarterfinal of the boxing competition at the ongoing games.

The UK-based fighter had gotten off to a winning start on Friday when he won via a 5-0 unanimous decision over Alex Michael Isendi of United Republic of Tanzania in the light welterweight division.
