Sierra Leone national athlete, Va-Sheku Sheriff will be running in the Commonwealth Games for the first time in the men’s 400metres preliminary event on August 3rd 2022 at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.
Sheriff hails from the Kamboi Hills in the far Eastern City of Kenema and currently based in the United State of America where he has got some professional trainings that has improved his athleticism and time, and he is one of the fastest athlete for Sierra Leone in the Men’s 400metres.
The 20-year-old has a personal best of 45secs. His aim is to beat his personal best and set a new national record. He is also aiming at making a mark in the games, and he looking forward to a successful race that will see him put his country on the map.
Va-Sheku Sheriff represented Sierra Leone in the All African Games in 2019 in Morocco and ran 46.06secs in the Men’s 400metres. He has been an awesome athlete for his region and his club when he was in Sierra Leone.
Describing the athlete, his former coach, Elogima Joseph Amara said Sheriff has the ability to achieve his goals.
“He was one of my best athletes few years ago in our Eastern Region Camp. He won many races for us in the 400mteres event. Seeing him at the Commonwealth Games is not a surprise, Sheriff is the kind of athlete who put total focus in his sport”.
“I am proud of what he has achieved so far and hope to see him finishing in an encouraging position with a good time”, coach Elogima stated
