Sierra Leone national U20 men’s football team, Shooting Stars will be facing t Mali in their opening fixture at the 2022 WAFU Zone A tournament on Monday, August 29, 2022.
The tournament will officially kickoff in Mauritania on Sunday, August 28, 2022 with 9 countries, including the host set to compete for the trophy.
A 37 man delegation from Sierra Leone, which includes 23 players and 14 officials arrived safely in Mauritania on Saturday night.
The team will play their first three matches in the tournament with the host Mauritania, Mali and Guinea Bissau with all matches playing at the Stade Cheikha Ould Boidiya.
The tournament is an association football championship that is played by national teams of Zone A of the West African Football Union(WAFU).
The Gambia won the 2021 championship after beating host the nation Senegal 4-3 on post penalty shootouts following their 2-2 draw in the full regulating time.
