Port Authority FC proved their dominance in the east-end derby with a rousing 1-0 win over East End Lions FC in front of their jubilant fans at the Brima Attuga Stadium on Friday.
Joseph Cleveland’s 40’-minute strike from his remarkable free-kick close to the center circle secured the 3 points for the Water Front Boys as they triumphed against the inconsistent East End Lions in the east-end battle.
Port Authority was effective and efficient on both sides of the pitch as they exhibits positive energy to win and solidify their stay in the top five.
The Water Front Boys would have doubled their lead with many wasted chances in the second half as they went on the rampage against Lion’s defensive area searching for a goal to increase their lead.
East End Lions on the hand other also mount some pressure on Port Authority, but they weren’t given enough space to break through with most of their chances going off target.
The result was disappointing for the Killers as they were expecting a good outcome to back their interest in maintaining the third spot on the table and also keep the pressure on second-place Mighty Blackpool and the league leaders, Bo Rangers for the title challenge.
“We didn’t play as a big team. There is so much to be done if we are to win matches with consistency. The technical team and the management have a role to play in ensuring the players are happy to play for the club”, Lions supporter, Samuel Smith.
Smith added: “the players have to show commitment and improve on their playing style. If you look at our team, we have good players with huge potential, but we are not getting the result. We need to find and fix the problem so we will be able to perform at the same level as others”.
Coach Lamin Bingara hailed his players, the technical team, the management, and the fans for believing in him and allowing him to develop the team at his pace despite the backlash from critics who scrutinized his tactical approach at the start of the league.
“It’s been a very difficult journey so far, but thank God we are able to be in this position now. When we started, many people discredit my work because of poor results. Today, we’ve demonstrated that we are capable to beat any team in the league”.
“We played brilliant football today. We dominates the entire match because I watched all Lions games prior to this fixture. I know their weaknesses and that’s what we capitalized on to get the result we want”, bhangra said.
Meanwhile, Joseph Cleveland was named Man of the Match for his influential role in helping his side grab the 3 points. His recent form has been a blessing to Port Authority with 4 goals in his last 6 matches.
