Malmo FF terminates Buya’s contract over visa saga for his wife

Swedish top-tier side, Malmo FF has confirmed that they’ve officially parted ways with Sierra Leone international, Mohamed Buya Turay whose contract has been terminated with immediate effect.

The club stated that Turay made it clear that he is not happy in Malmö. “He feels that he cannot perform here but needs to go home to his family”, says Malmö FF’s sporting director Daniel Andersson in a press release.

Mohamed Buya Turay, 28, has had a tough time since returning to the Allsvenskan.

The player’s wife has not received permission to move to Sweden and the investigation at the Swedish Migration Agency has dragged on. The 28-year-old also has children whom he has not been able to meet for a long time when they lived in different countries.

On the pitch, Buya Turay hasn’t had it easy either. The striker has only accounted for two goals and one assist in 16 appearances for Malmö FF.

Mohamed has been open with his feelings all the way and we have had a good dialogue together to try to resolve the situation. When it then dragged on, it finally became unsustainable for him and he feels that he cannot perform here and needs to go home to his family.

It’s obviously sad when it happens like this, but this is the best solution for everyone involved, says Daniel Andersson, MFF’s sports director.

In 2019, Buya Turay played in Djurgården, where he was a key player in the team that took SM gold, and won the shooting league the same year. After that season, the loan to Dif ended and the 28-year-old returned to the Belgian club Sint-Truidense.

Buya Turay joined Malmö FF this summer from Henan Songshan Longmen in the Chinese top league. The contract was written until 2025.
