Mali eliminates Sierra Leone to book a spot in CHAN 2023

The local Eagles of Mali beat Sierra Leone 2-0 at Stade Du Mars 26 on Saturday afternoon in the second leg of the 2023 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers.

Mali progressed to the final phase of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) to be held in Algeria next January, following their 4-1 win on aggregates against Sierra Leone.

The Eagles dominated throughout the match, giving the visitors hard time to settle. Makan Samabaly’s goal in the 35’ minutes and Paul Mohamed Kargbo’s own goal in the 58’ minutes sealed the win for the Malians who once again showed superiority over Sierra Leone.

This is the 5th time the Malians have qualified to play in the CHAN competition. Mali has already lost twice in the final against the DRC in 2016 and Morocco in 2021.

Meanwhile, Mali, Niger, Ghana, Senegal, Mauritania, Madagascar and Sudan have validated their tickets for the 7th edition of CHAN which is scheduled to kickoff from January 13 to February 4, 2023 in Algeria.

CHAN is a competition organized for locally based players that are playing the top leagues in their respective countries.
