Kei Kamara hints at CF Montreal Exit

The third all-time leading goal scorer in MLS history, Kei Ansu Kamara has reportedly requested to leave CF Montreal.

According to mlssoccer.com, the 38-year-old striker voiced the news on his Twitter account last Wednesday.

“For once, I threw all my eggs in one basket telling my family I found a place we can call home, finish my playing career and possibly more, but looks like it was just a dream,” Kamara wrote”.

“Mentally it has been a difficult offseason, but I have no regrets being a part of such a wonderful group in 2022”, Kamara said.

The former Sierra Leone international, was Montreal’s second-leading scorer in 2022 with 9 goals 7 assists. His impact in scoring goals helped the club to achieve their best-ever MLS campaign as they finished second-place in the Eastern Conference standings in 2022.

Kamara has a total of 139 goals in 391 regular-season matches in the MLS, and he is rated as the third highest goal scorer in the league.

CF Montreal is Kamara’s ninth MLS team after successful stretches with the Columbus Crew, Sporting Kansas City, New End Revolution, Vancouver FC, Colorado Rapids, Houston Dynamo, San Jose Earthquake and Minnesota United. 

Kamara was chosen by Columbus Crew in the first round ninth overall at the 2006 MLS SuperDraft. He spent two seasons there, making 36 appearances and scoring 5 goals.

Prior to the 2008 season, he was traded to San Jose Earthquakes in exchange for Brian Carroll. However, he spent only the 2008 season there, making 12 appearances and scoring 2 goals.

On 24 July 2008, Kamara was traded to Houston Dynamo for a first-round pick in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft and allocation money. On 30 September 2008, Kamara scored two goals for MLS champion Houston Dynamo against Mexican club UNAM Pumas in a CONCACAF Champions League match.

On 15 September 2009, Kamara was traded to Sporting Kansas City for Abe Thompson and allocation money. Kamara had several productive seasons with Kansas City which saw him become one of the most imposing wingers in the league.

Kamara also enjoys his spells at Norwich, Middlesbrough FC and HIFK Fotboll.
