FC Kallon edge Buffles in CAF Confederation Cup first leg preliminary tie

FC Kallon secured a vital 0-1 away win over Buffles de Borgou in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup Preliminary rounds tie at the General Mathieu Kérékou stadium in Cotonou on Friday afternoon.

Philip A. Conteh scored the only goal to powered the Cavaliers to victory as the home side struggles to penetrate the defence of the visitors who did all they can to protect their defensive line and keep a clean sheet.

The Buffles weren’t convincing in the match and their poor performance earned FC Kallon the chance to walked away with an important away goal and 3 points.

“We saw a choppy first half. An unbridled defense, a faltering midfield and an ineffective attack in front of the opposing camp. On these dissatisfied aspects, the Beninese return to the locker room empty-handed”, a journalist reported.

Amidou Arouna, manager of Buffles de Borgou regrets the many opportunities not utilized by his players.

Mohamed Kallon who was in the dugout as head coach of FC Kallon lauded his boys for sticking to their game plan and winning away from home in their return to CAF competition after missing out for several years.

“It was a very exciting and intense game. The intensity was very high. I would like to congratulate the technical team of Buffles. They were very prepared and they are mature and experienced players”.

“So I knew it was going to be a difficult game even though we watch 4 or 5 videos of them. It was difficult to contain them. But we have another objective which is to close their intensity, play low block, and don’t allow them to penetrate our defensive line”.

“And our objective was to score one goal and it works very well for us”.

The two teams acknowledged that it was a difficult match to start with in the campaign following the beautiful football displayed by either side. FC Kallon will be hosting Buffles in Monrovia Liberia next week for the return leg encounter.
