“Disappointing to withdraw from the national team”…injured Rodney Michael

Sierra Leone Forward, Rodney Michael has withdrawn from the Leone Stars squad that will be facing Sao Tome and Principe in the two-legged AFCON 2023 qualifiers scheduled for the 22nd and 26th of March in Morocco.

The FK Mornar Bah forward was selected in the John Keister 24-man squad, but he pulled out after he suffered a recurring hamstring injury during training with his club for their weekend match.

Confirming the news about the injury on his Facebook page, Rodney noted that it was disappointing to withdraw from the national team due to the injury.

“Disappointed to have to withdraw from the National team due to injury. As always, I wish the players and technical team all the best and I am optimistic they will get results that the nation will be proud of”, he said.

“I will now focus on recovering and getting back to 100% to be able to help my club team, and hopefully, national team in future games”. Rodney posted after being ruled out.

According to rumors, East End Lions FC winger, Prince Barrie will be replacing him in the national team.  However, Barrie was in training with the squad on Thursday evening.

But it was reported that news making the rounds on social media about Barrie’s call-up to the squad by the technical staff of the National team is untrue.
