The Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) has announced that they will be staging the continent’s biggest football award this year in Morocco.
The prestigious CAF Awards 2022, will be held on July 21, 2022, to celebrate and reward African best footballers who were the top performers for their various clubs and national teams in both male and female categories.
The CAF Awards will be staged ahead of the final of the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations which will be hosted in Morocco from 2-23 July and the event will coincide with the two-year anniversary of the launch of the CAF Women’s Football Strategy.

To celebrate women excellence in the game,CAF has introduced a new category which is the Inter-clubs Women Player of the Year following the successful maiden edition of the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League in November 2021.
Apart from the most desired Player of the Year award for Men and Women, there will be many other categories that will be awarded to deserving winners ranging from Inter-club Player of the Year, Young Player of the Year, National Team of the Year, Coach of the Year, Club of the Year, and Goal of the Year.
The period under review for this year’s award is from September 2021 until June 2022. Which means that only top performer within this period would be nominated and voted for.

As usual the winners will be determined by votes counted from captains and coaches of the Member Associations, selected journalists, CAF Technical Study Group and CAF Legends.
The previous edition of the CAF Awards was held in 2019 in Hurghada, Egypt. Senegalese forward Sadio Mane and Nigeria’s Asisat Oshoala won the African Player of the Year Men and Women respectively.
